Unit 731 LeadersThe Epidemic Prevention and
Water Purification Department of the Kwantung Army, was a part of and department of the Imperial Japanese Army, which had control over different units such as Unit 731, but later General Shirō Ishii took control. Also the second in command after Shirō Ishii was Masaji Kitano, who was the lieutenant general, microbiologist, and a doctor for Unit 731. The Northeast Today Magazine said, “Dr. Shiro Ishii was a medical doctor, a distinguished professor, a genius microbiologist with a photographic memory, a decorated soldier, a Lieutenant-General in the Imperial Japanese Army, and the man behind Unit 731.”

Details of Human ExperimentationThe Japanese used diseases and epidemics to study effects of how the human body reacts, to find cures for frostbite and syphilis, and how to spread disease in a vast way.

Biological Weapons Research
There were many biological weapons used to effectively spread disease. One of the most popular was a bomb filled with disease. Among others are injections of fatal disease into the intestines & organs during vivisections.
